Augmented to a Mediated Territories:

Mediated Reality "differs from virtual reality or augmented reality in the sense that it allows us to filter out things we do not wish to have thrust upon us against our will" Steve Mann

Mediated Territories reflects on architectures ability to mediate experience, social, cultural, and spatial conditions through a territory or environment of conditions. Natures are monitored and controlled, ecologies are amplified or manufactured and interior landscapes are conditioned, with the intent of augmenting performance and responsiveness, controlling the flow of resources, monitoring data or redressing environmental imbalances. In the current scenario, the dialectic is to position the work of architecture within a spectrum of mediation and manipulation of the natural, landscape, the digital and the built environment.

New forms of visualization and digital technologies help inform architecture mediate between different means of operatives. Historically, modes of operation can be sub divided in to two categories of material and digital. Within the notion of materiality and digitality, they can be future sub categorized into material 3d, material 2d, digital 2d, and digital 3d. The first objects created my man falls under the material 2d as tools, weapons, sculptures, and architecture came about. Soon to follow is the material 2d which consist of paintings, drawings and flat visual representations. Photography and the invention of the motion pictures leads human innovation into digital 2d which is just a false illusion to the 3d perception of what the current paradigm suggests. The digital 2d is a representation of the material 3d world. A digital 3d mediates the condition between materiality and the subject, which start to incorporate virtual, augmented and the mediated reality.

The research suggest the utilization web cam and digital glasses technologies, to mediate territories as a medium for the discipline of architecture. Creating a site specific cognition that incorporates material overlay, tags and informative agency and site conditions, visual barriers and transparency that are subjectivity relevant.
